Obama as VP will ensure 16 years of Democratic-controlled White House
This is obvious; Barack is perfectly poised to take over Clinton’s seat in 8 years. Those years as VP will prove his credentials while providing the flexibility to continue his “unique” brand of politics, whatever that is. It will ensure that the divided Democrats, who have sadly fallen along racial lines, will see a tangible and hopeful future for the party and the country.
The fact that Barack hasn’t realized this, and that his feel-good campaign has screamed and screamed for “change” without any regard for the careful politics which the Democrats so desperately need to pay attention to, speaks volumes about Barack’s arrogance. The “dream ticket” is not a fantasy; it’s a GREAT IDEA!
I realize that running as VP doesn’t fly with Barack’s whole campaign and its messages; for him, it’s all or nothing. We can either “change” and usher in a “new politics” or whatever, and this can’t happen without him. I agree that Hillary’s campaign has been plagued by the tactics and methods which half-worked for her husband in the early 90s and which have clearly failed today; this is her fault as much as her campaign managers (although hindsight is always 20/20).
Nonetheless Hillary has a lot to offer and remains, for better or for worse, a real liberal. We never would have called her the “status-quo” candidate until Barack raced in to the picture. His candidancy has (albeit unintentionally) injected the ugly politics of race into this campaign; I’m truly glad that a frank discussion has been initiated as a result, but ultimately this fight will end up doing nothing for the “status-quo” Obama so eloquently dislikes.
For the good of the party and the nation, Obama must put aside his ego and his politics-in-a-vacuum vision and take his place as Hillary’s running mate. We have the opportunity to lock-in a Democratic America for the foreseeable future; isn’t that the kind of “change” we really want?
